Default Colouring sugarpaste with deep colours...

I currently use Sugarflair paste colours to colour my sugarpaste. When trying to get deep colours, I'm finding that I have to use a lot of paste to get the colour I want.

For example, I was trying to apply a deep maroon colour to approx 1.5kg of sugarpaste and found that I had to use almost half a standard pot of paste!

There must be a better way. Any other techniques that are better?

Any help appreciated.
