Angry Collapsing slices

Can anyone help please?

I'm making a black forest gateau wedding cake. I baked a smaller trial cake and it's tastes fine, but when I cut it into slices and put them on plates, the slices collapse, and don't look very good.

It could be because the cherries in the cake aren't holding it together as icing would.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Thank you
Sarah
