Default Putting top layer on large cakes

I need some advice. I am baking 2 large cakes,(16" round and 12x19" rectangle) I am putting a raspberry filling with a dam between each layer. Is there a trick to putting the top layer on without breaking it or messing up the dam? I can get someone to help me so I have another pair of hands, but is there a trick to doing it by yourself? Thanks,

Default large cake layers

The best way I know is to put a cake board inbetween the layers when you cut them, before you take them off of the stack. You will never have to worry about breaking because the cake is never off of a cardboard. When you want to replace it... simply align the cardboard about an inch above the cake, and simply giggle it a little to loosen, then slide it slowly on to the layer below. I have done it this way for 25 years....
